Starting in the second half of the 1990s, Volga-Dnepr Airlines, usually known for operating large cargo aircraft, also operated a small fleet of Yakovlev Yak-40 trijets. These were used for a few years providing scheduled domestic passenger services between St. Petersburg or Moscow and destinations along the Volga River, such as Nizhniy Novgorod and Ulyanovsk. This latest release of the distinctive Yak-40 in the 1:200 scale can be displayed with the airstairs at the rear extended or closed.
