Discover the Botter, a wooden model of this traditional Dutch fishing boat. These ships sailed for centuries in the shallow coastal waters of the Zuiderzee. The crew, usually between 2 and 4 men, used to keep catches alive in a hatchery located in the center of the boat. Guided by our detailed step by step instructions you can complete your replica of this traditional ship.
The Zuiderzee was a great inland sea in the north of the Netherlands. The completion in 1932 of a large dam divided it into two, creating a large inland saltwater lake called IJsselmeeer and adding the rest of the ancient inland sea to the Wadden Sea. After this division, no more new Botters were built, and wood and candles were replaced by steel and engine propulsion. An association for the preservation of Botter keeps several of them in their original state.
Build your 1/35 scale model of the Botter, a traditional fishing boat on the island of Marken. Its construction system using false keel and frames brings the assembly of your model closer to the construction of the actual ship. The model includes laser cut board pieces, hardwood, brass, die-cast and fabric. For the assembly you can follow our complete full-color step by step guide in 4 languages, accompanied by real-scale drawings of the ship.
