The giant long-haul Boeing 747 made its maiden flight on Feb. 9, 1969. The jumbo jet had Pratt - Whitney engines with 19,731 kp of thrust, a takeoff weight of more than 300,000 kg and could transport 385 passengers over a distance of 9,136 km. The 747 was planned by Boeing as a series, and the 747-100 was followed by other variants with increased capacities.
