The Sd. Kfz. 9 - 18 t heavy recovery vehicle is one of the best known German towing vehicles of World War II. The final version was built at the Fahrzeug- und Motorenwerken (FAMO) in Breslau where about 2,500 units were made between 1939 and 1944. It was used for recovering tanks and transporting heavy artillery and bulky goods of all kinds. The 12-cylinder Maybach engine developed 250 hp and made the 8.30 m long monster into the heaviest tractor used by the German Army.
